Hello IFIXIT. My name is Peter. Please I’m having trouble with my 2002 jeep grand Cherokee…its generally a cool ride but this problem just sucks. For some time now,.the vehicle just goes off when the fuel level is almost at the reserve point (a bar above the E) then I have to buy fuel in a jerry can and top it up to get moving again. Please what cud be the likely cause of this problem? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks

@dukepetre,Peter, There is a chance that the fuel gage is not registering quite right and fuel tank is pretty much empty or perhaps some one previous to you had the fuel pump changed with aftermarket pump and the replacement pump sump was not quite as long as original. There fore can not reach the lower reserve level in the tank. It is actually always a good idea to run 1/4 tank of fuel in tank to help pump stay submerged in fuel to cool pump, this helps extend the life of a in tank electric fuel pump. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
