I just installed a new hard drive in my 2009 intel imac, and now the fans are blowing full blast, which is what I was afraid would happen because the new hard drive didn’t have a port for the thermal sensor cord. How do I slow them down?? It’s really loud.
James - The best way to solve this is to install a replacement thermal sensor that is designed to work with your Mac system. Here’s what I recommend: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2009-2010 Hard Drive Upgrade it will supply the systems SMC services the needed thermal input to correctly manage the fans within your system. In addition you may want to get a better view of things this is what I recommend for that: TG Pro.
