My amana freezer and fridge stop getting cold

If the refrigerator isn’t cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running. First, answer these questions: Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see “It’s stopped completely.” Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it. Next, see if the compressor motor is running The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It’s on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, I recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help. If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these: The compressor The Thermostat The overload, relay, or capacitor The defrost timer The condenser fan motor

I have had this problem with an Amana. It cost me $75 dollars to fix it. Here is the fix for free: The food was pretty packed in the freezer and was brushing against the top of it. On the top is the dial control for coldness and the integrated switch to turn it off. Mine was off, the opening and closing of the drawer caused the dial to turn all the way down and then to off. The repair guy came over and turned it on. Didn’t I feel dumb. This may or may not be your problem, but it’s something to check. Good luck with this, Frank

Most Frequent Cause for Freezer not freezing The evaporator fan motor draws air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan motor is not working, the freezer will not cool. On most refrigerators, the fan motor will not run when the door is open. To check the evaporator fan motor, open the freezer door and then manually activate the freezer door switch. If the door switch is activated, but the evaporator fan motor won’t run, replace the evaporator fan motor.

You might be able to fix it yourself. If you can’t, you’ll save time and money knowing the proper solution:-

  1. Freezer Door Seals:- The seal around the freezer door can be another problem when your freezer is running but not freezing.Test your freezer’s door seal by inserting a dollar bill between the door and freezer. Close the freezer door and see if you can pull out the dollar bill. If you can, something is interfering with the seal. A door seal that is dirty simply needs to be cleaned; if it’s badly damaged, replace it. Different seals vary, so follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
  2. Coolant System Repairs:- Some repairs aren’t even practical; both a bad compressor or a faulty main control board cost more to fix than to simply replace the freezer. A loud thumping is a sure sign that the compressor is at fault. Consult a professional in these situations.
  3. Other Simple Repairs:- There are a few other things to check when your freezer runs but fails to cool. Pull the freezer out and look for dust, debris or ice that might be smothering the coils. As chest-style freezers use internal coils, this applies to upright models or refrigerator/freezer combinations. A hair dryer quickly melts ice and a vacuum or soft cloth makes quick work of dust. With the freezer unplugged, locate the motor underneath the freezer and clean it. Defrost the freezer if it’s clogged with ice. If you notice water pooling on the floor when the freezer is running but not freezing, check the drain tube in the freezer’s floor or underneath the vegetable drawers in the refrigerator compartment. Insert a turkey baster of bleach water into the tube to clean it, or run a length of smaller tubing through it to push out the clog. Also, check for adequate clearance around your freezer and ensure it doesn’t sit in a sunny, hot and humid location or in an unheated area.

Our freezer stopped working recently. In our case, the thermostat was the problem. Tested this by touching the red and black wires, that are attached to the small gray box, which bypassed the thermostat control. When they touched the compressor started. Ordered a replacement themostat and connected the wires (with the freezer unplugged) and everything started working again. Image showing thermostat

Is the Fridge still getting power? Are the lights on etc. If it is, sounds like there is an issue with the compressor, perhaps the motor went bad. If there is nothing powered, there may be a power management issue or there could be no power coming from the wall.

Hello, My fridge Amana (bought in 2009) stops completely fridging during enough time to get ice in water. The fan and the compressor in the back below stop. Then it fridges again and works properly during 6/7 days then again stops and so…I call the repairman. This trouble is well known he said : the electronic card in the top of the fridge cabin (in the box where the digits temperature are) is down. Changing it solves the problem but cost is outstanding : 430 dollars including french taxes plus the time of the man ! Can we get the card for less ? Bests regards Olivier.hermen@gmail.com

We had a similar problem, but it was obvious what was wrong because the fan started screeching in the middle of a hurricane, so you can imagine how loud it must have been. We had to dismantle the parts inside the frig that hid the fan (not a big job really) and find and remove the fan. By getting the designation number off the fan,we were able to order a new one from Ebay for about $60, and install it. It’s lasted over a year (through a 2nd hurricane) without a peep.

My refrigerator was giving problems and i also thaought it was some sort of dial of fan that is what the engineers from the service company kept telling us but everytime they left after replacing parts the problem would occur months later. It’s one of those german refrigerator liebherr. Contacted liebherr who put me in contact with http://www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk. who attented and replaced one of the sensors which was controlling the freezer fan. It did’t have a thermostat it was control by a pcb module.
