My friend sat down on my open Macbook Pro (2009) and there was a huge snapping noise. There are no problems. The only thing is that my screen now goes completely 180 degrees back. I need to know if I can fix the hinge or god forbid get this fixed by a professional for money because I just dropped so much money on this laptop and I am a broke college student. There really are no problems and everything is working fine; it’s just that the screen goes completely flat when bent back. It is not loose when opened unless it’s opened a little bit past 90 degrees. Is this even a problem? I’d really prefer to not have to go to a computer repair shop.
If it opens 180 degrees hinges are probably gone, but there’s no way to tell if the screen is fixable without inspection. You’ll need to remove the display assembly to access the plastic clutch cover under which you’ll find hinges. The plastic cover needs to be pushed to the right about 1 cm. first and then lifted.
