Chosen Solution
It’s been doing this for a week. It always show resolution issues, pixel tear and horizontal line glitches during startup. Sometimes it stops after a few minutes, and I can squeeze some work time in. Other times it doesn’t stop and I need to leave it shut down. Can someone give me a possible diagnosis or assistance before I have to go give 600$ for repairing something 1/10 that price. IFIXIT suggests these might be unrepairable ourselves. It’s horrible. Help! Edit 1: Never dropped. Minor dings and dents due to usage exist. Movement of display or body does not affect the appearing or disappearing of the glitches whatsoever. Edit 2: Pairs perfectly with an external display via HDMI, when not glitching. (Image)
Does the screen start glitching like that immediately when you turn it on or only after a certain point on the loading bar? This looks to me like physical damage to the display, was it dropped or anything? You will most likely just need to replace that. You can do it yourself fairly easily but the part itself is typically well over $500, so it does end up being an expensive repair no matter where you go. MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Display Assembly Another thing that occurs to me is it could be the LCD cable that is damaged somehow. You could try replacing that instead (Part: MacBook Pro Retina (2012-2015) Display LVDS Cable): MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2013 LCD Cable Replacement — It’s a bit of a long-shot but it’s definitely a far cheaper repair so I would try it.
My display started doing the same, but when i connect and external monitor via HDMI or Thunderbolt both screens work perfectly , the other fun thing is that if i run the machine on windows or linux it works perfectly , so i think is not the screen nor the cable, one technician told me it was something with the hertz , the frequency the screen is working with macOS , change the refresh ratio but, change it to the same that wndows or linux uses with this screen , the thing is that i have tried many ways to do it with not success and im stock with the problem still.
I hope someone knows how to fix it , thank you
Hello guys I have the same issue. MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) Mojave 10.14.6. This started after I opened it to change the battery to a new one, last week. I’m starting to think that I screwed up. Pressing the screen works, somethimes. Other times, it’s on for hours without any problems. Send it to Apple repair is the only way?
I have similar problem. It looks like whenever the laptop goes to sleep or turned off it will go crazy for a few minutes, then goes back working normally until next sleep or shutdown. Then I realized that it was not because the machine goes to sleep or turned off, it was because the display being turned off. Conversely, if the display is never turned off, that problem will never happen. So what I did was simply have the energy setting to never turn off display and just set the brightness to zero when I do not use it. This seems does not the lifespan of the display.
Hi all, I’ve the same issue in my MacBook Pro 2015. Has anyone solved it? Thanks, Fabio
