My MacBook Pro retina 13" screen isnt working. When I turn the mb on the screen gets illuminated but keeps black screen. Sometimes (usually when I plugged out the HDMI cable) the image comes back and I can see my desktop with all the colours but it blinks and finally fade to white like its burning. Also I can use the mb with an external display via hdmi and works as usual with my normal desktop. I’ve tried the ram/pram keys combination and the SMC too and nothing works. What could be the problem? Is it expensive to replace/fix it? Update (10/03/2017) MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz i5" (Late 2013) So I should check first if the display cable between the LCD and the bottom base its okay. If not I should be prepared to change the whole LCD panel right? I’m forever grateful for the help. Woz bless you. Update (10/06/2017)
At this point, I think you need to pop the bottom cover off to make sure the display connector is properly seated and not damaged. As you believe your system didn’t get wet the issue will likely be within the display its self. Within the display is a set of circuits which demux the signal to something it can use to drive the LCD. We call these chips drivers. The video leads me to believe these are damaged and/or the connection to them. If that is the case you’ll need to replace the display assembly As we don’t know your exact model I can’t point you to the needed guide or part. Plug in your systems serial number here: EveryMac - Lookup then post the systems URL here for us to see. Update (10/04/2017) Here’s the IFIXIT guide you’ll need to follow: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Display Assembly Replacement. For now, follow the Steps to Step6 and then jump to Step11 which is the display connector. See if you see any discoloration or if the bail wire is seated across the connector. Carefully disconnect the cable it needs to slide out along the surface of the logic board don’t pull up! Until its clear of the connection inspect it as well. If you want to take a picture or two for us to see if you see something. Carefully reseat the cable and reconnect the battery is it any better? If not I think it’s clear you need a new display assembly. Update (04/28/2018) Well, you’ve got corrosion damage and you may have a few damaged SMD components as well!
It could be a problem either with the display outputs on your logic board or it could be a software issue. Did you try to restore an earlier time machine backup? If you don’t have time machine, try a fresh install of MacOS. As others suggested It could be the result of liquid damage on the logic board, but you mentioned it only suffered some bumps and drops. Have you opened the bottom of the computer to see if there are any loose connections?
for those experiencing this issue, but have not achieved resolution: i just took in a 2012 MacBook pro retina 13 which had no display. after trying all of the suggestions, i ended up with a working backlight but no LCD. the solution was to disassemble the laptop and remove the LCD, then remove the clutch cover from the LCD. here i disconnected and reseated all connectors, and partially reassembled the laptop to test. ALL SYSTEMS GO. I suspect this computer took a fall also
somtimes i have this problem. I just close the laptop and open it after 30 seconds then it work. Hope it can help
