hello, my mom spilled soda on my hp G60-230US computer and she DID NOT cut off power to it like i told her to do cause it was working with the exception of the trackpad Is there any way to recover it or is it toast? the symptoms are as follows the trackpad did not work at first, now it goes up and down without me doing a thing or will not register anything elsenow the trackpad dosent register movments every time in the middle now instead, it skips in the middle

I had the same problem not long ago. i just cleaned the keyboard with isopropyl alcohol. and everything is ok. here a link how to open it. http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-rep… Let me know what happened Good luck to you

Although we do not have any repair guides yet for that computer, I’m sure you’re able to open it. My advice: Once you’re at a step where you can see the logic board, you should use some strong isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a soft brush to remove any white-ish residue you see. You may also attempt to access the bottom side of the trackpad, and make sure those contacts do not have crystalized sugar on them. Let the device dry to make sure all liquid is gone (this will likely take a day or two in a warm, dry place if the device is opened up. Putting some parts of the device in a bag of rice can also be useful at this point.) When it is dry, put it back together, and you will have your best chance of it working. If you do all this and it still is not working though (which I might reasonably assume to be the case here since the power was on), come back and update your question to describe the symptoms that are happening at that point.

My advice: pull out all hardware you can (so-dimm’s, internal HDD, battery) and let the hardware dry in a bag of rice. Rice is filling itself with water, so it also does with your mum’s soda. Check the guide on CNet.com Greetings from Delft, The Netherlands, George
