The other day while using my computer the screen froze and the image gradually started to disappear from the outer part of the screen to the centre(took about 40 seconds to do so), but the computer was still running and the backlight still was(allthough only displaying a blank screen) i hard reset the computer and started it up again, to find that I no longer get any display. The backlight still works and can be dimmed and brightened using the touchbar I have connected a second monitor and that is working and can use the laptop that way I have tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM but hasn’t changed anything. Has anyone experienced this and have a solution?
Sadly your displays driver logic has failed (T-CON board). Unlike the older models this part is located within the main case just above the heatsink. Running your system hard with limited cooling can cook this part. Make sure your fans are running properly and any dust build up gets cleaned off. You should run a good thermal monitoring app to help you see what’s happening internally. I find this one is quite good TG Pro. You should make sure you’re not blocking the vents as well.
Here’s a breakdown of the display assembly and the T-CON board.
