I recently did a rebuild due to water damage on a 2009 macbook A1342. I replaced the uppercase, keyboard, and trackpad. All of the other parts are original. Since then, however, I have been without sound. The volume controls when pressed are dimmed and when I go into system preferences their are no output devices found. When I rebuilt the machine I saw no burns or anything that would indicate that any damage has happened to the MOBO, but I’m no expert. I was hoping someone knows the answer to this puzzle. Even if I can’t fix it I would love to at least get a diagnosis. Thanks

If SystemProfiler->Audio does not identify the ports then they are damaged. Get a magnifying glass and check (both sides) the logic board for corrosion and/or burn marks… cleaning may help corrosion - otherwise it’s live without sound or replace the logic board. (IMnsHO Soldering Logic Board components is not the “average” DIY sort of repair it requires special solder, tools & experience it’s easy to thrash a board). A workaround is to get a USB audio dongle… USB sound often works when the analog ports do not. If this Answer is helpful please remember to return and mark it Accepted.

i tried everything to try fix my ’no output device found’ problem. reinstalled twice even in the end his technique worked for me i’ve edited it a bit to make it easier to do it correctly Step One: Open Applications. Step Two: Find Utilities folder and open. Step Three: Find the Audio MIDI Setup icon and open. Step Four: on the MIDI page there will be the IAC Drive. If it Greyed Out, Select and click on “Add Devices”. Step Five: double click on the IAC Drive, If the word BUS is in this box select and remove. Step Six: Make sure that the “Device is online” is checked. Your IAC Driver Icon should be all red. FINALLY RESTART. I really hope this fixes the problem for others as it’s immensely frustrating! Good luck
