i have a client who spilled a smoothie on her MacBook Pro a1278. When powered up, the chime sounds and the HD spins, but there is no response from the LCD display. I noticed that there was a corroded chip on the logic board near the display cable, and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it, so i could figure out if it’s the lcd or the logic board that needs repair (i don’t have an extra lcd to test if it’s the lcd). Here’s a photo with a red arrow pointing to the component. http://postimage.org/image/fm97fqcqj/ thanks for any help!

You should probably clean off the corrosion with a toothbrush and 90% alcohol, and see if that resolves the issue before trying to come to conclusions.

It looks like your logic board will likely need to be replaced as many components are very difficult to locate or are custom to Apple. As oldturkey stated you still need to finish cleaning off the junk before going forward. Also note you have a newer version of this system early ‘11 model Vs ’ late ‘10 they are different logic bds.
