Hello, I have a Mid 2011 27” iMac 2.7 GHz i5 with 8 GB or RAM and 1 TB HDD running MacOS High Sierra. I want to upgrade it to any i7 because of how slow it gets. Can’t do any heavy duty video editing or photo editing.
Surprisingly upgrading your CPU won’t get you that much more performance with video and photo editing. RAM and the type of storage will get you more performance for the amount of work. The first is the easiest upgrade your RAM to 16 GB! Here we just need to get to the access door at the bottom of the unit to take out the old and put in the new RAM modules iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 RAM Replacement The second will require some work by adding a SSD following this guide Installing iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Dual Drive Kit (HDD or SSD). I would recommend getting a 512 GB. Install MacOS and make it your boot drive. Migrate your user accounts and apps over. Leave your data on the HDD.
as fare as i am aware you can not upgrade the CPU in the apples macs
