I have a Macbook Pro (early 2015) that had a “service battery” indicator. I had plans to replace the battery myself, but now my Macbook won’t turn on past the Apple logo. It immediately shuts down after going 1/2 or completing the progress bar. The trackpad is also not clicking, which I think could be related to the battery issue. I still get a green light when I plug in the power adapter. Could replacing the whole battery like I’d planned resolve this issue?
It may. It’s very likely the battery issue is in fact related to the trackpad issue. A swelling battery often puts upward pressure on the trackpad which hamstrings its functionality. I would also check your serial number against this link just to verify you don’t qualify for coverage under this program. https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macboo…. As for the boot issue, that could be any number of things. I would try and unplug the battery and see if you can get any further in the boot sequence running on just power from the charger. be aware that if there is battery swelling, and you take off the bottom of the machine to do this, it may result in being unable to get the bottom back on again since the pressure is presently contained in a closed vessel. But taking the bottom case off will alleviate that, sometimes suddenly. I wouldn’t be TOO concerned as long as you’re careful. I just mean it’s likely the bottom case will pop open somewhat violently if the battery is very swollen.
