I just installed a new hard drive and a new battery in my ipod. The drive is a MK6008GAH from a samsung Q1 Ultra, so claims the ebay seller. The ipod switches on, displays the black screen with apple logo then just the sad ipod screen. I’ve tried leaving it to charge (via wall charger) overnight but as soon as I unplug the ipod switches off. I’ve been trying to put it into disk mode, I succeeded once, connected the ipod to my computer but the ipod froze before the computer recognised it. Any ideas what might be wrong? Perhaps a dud harddrive?
What hard drive did you have in the iPod before? If it was a Hitachi, you will need a different HDD cable. Even in this case, I’d start with the cable. If you have a multimeter, check your battery voltage and double check your battery connection. Watch the connector, it has a tendency of getting ripped of the logic board. Also make sure that the clip that holds the cable into the connector is properly seated. Check your cable, as well as your dock connector for bend, broken or corroded pins.
