Luckily cracking broken an old battery doesn’t influence the new battery performance. You probably got a bad quality new battery, it can happen, there’s a lot of that on aftermarket spares. Get from the store a free Battery Life App and check how it performs numberwise, if it gets worse day after day contact seller enclosing a screenshot and ask for replacement.
What made you change the battery to begin with? If it was just because battery life wasn’t quite what it used to be then yes—you could have a bad battery here. If the problem was rapid battery drain, would not charge, etc then you could have damage to the charge port or tristar chip on the logic board—in which case simply changing the battery doesn’t solve the underlying problem.
