I used the iFixit kit to replace the battery in my iPhone 5. It worked great for 8 days. I did notice a small yellowish patch at the top of the screen, most visible on white backgrounds, but all worked fine. I let it discharge to dead, then plugged it in to charge. The Apple logo shows for a few seconds, then goes to black screen. I left it charging for several hours - same result. iTunes doesn’t see it when connected to my iMac. Did I get a bad battery?
yellowish patch comes from a slight imperfection in the way everything went back together. If it is on the left side, you can gently push down to flatten the edges/sides of your battery and fit the screen again to make it disappear. I’ve seen a lot of iPhone 5’s lately that seem to come down with charging sickness after (insert unrelated repair here). One of the features of this disease is that everything is fine until you ask the phone to charge a 0% battery –it can’t. You can solve this by putting in a fresh battery. There are certainly dud batteries out there which could absolutely be the case here, but with the next one–see if you can avoid letting it get down below 1%. Bad dock connector, like Oldturkey03 suggests is also a possibility and is inexpensive and straightforward to replace. jessa
jbjude, sure it’s possible that you have gotten a bad battery. I’d contact the people on ifixit and see if they are going to exchange it. I bet they will;-) The only concern I have is that “small yellowish patch at the top of the screen” I wonder if you are somehow applying pressure to the back of the LCD or are having overcharge issues. Once you have a new battery, check the voltage on the battery connector with the iPhone plugged in. It is possible that you have a bad dock connector as well. Hope this helps, good luck.
