I purchased a “new” macbook battery to replace the old swollen battery in my 2009 MacBook Pro 13in. The battery I received was rated for 5656mAh. I replaced the battery and used Coconut battery to diagnose the new one, and it said 5519mAh was the full charge capacity after 2 cycles. I figured it takes some time to get adjusted, however, after 5 cycles it has dropped to 4855mAh maximum capacity out of the 5770mAh manufactured capacity. I am worried that I received a defective battery. Is this the case? Or do i need to deplete the battery and cycle it a certain number of times in order to bring the capacity back up? Any help would be much appreciated
Do an SMC reset and NVRAM reset. 2009 models should last about 4-6hrs, you will be very lucky to get anything more than this.
If this is a new battery installation, then calibrate the battery by discharging it to below 10%, then charging it to 100% uninterrupted.
