It looks like the new iMac 2019 is just a refresh of processors vs. a redesign. Does anyone know if this is the case? Specifically, I’m curious whether the RAM will remain user upgradeable through a door in the back of the computer.

Boy! You didn’t even wait for the ink to dry on the announcement! Start your stopwatch … No-one even has the systems yet as well as had the time to even take a peek inside on whats changed (if anything). It will likely be a good month before we’ll have any clues. As for the RAM access looking at the gallery we can see the door release button is still present just above the power outlet. So unless someone goofed on the pictures it appears the RAM is still accessible from the back.

I believe the 2017 models were based on Kaby Lake. I don’t think there’s a definitive answer, but it’s likely the 2019 iMac will use Ice Lake, if Intel ever gets around to using 10nm as they promised. The RAM is something we’re hoping for, but likely won’t happen, as the iMac Pro did not feature user-servicable memory. Edit: @danj has the better answer here.

It does not means that new model has all hardware and configuration are changed. iMac 2019 has latest operating system Mojave and also more RAM and more powerful processor. Normally all PC Manufacture release new model after few changes to older model. same for iMac 2019
