This is my dad’s phone and he jumped in the pool with it in his pocket a week ago. None of the correct post water steps were followed. Basically nothing was done with it other than trying to turn it on. Its totally dead. Nothing happens even plugged in. I’ve cracked it open. Don’t see any obvious signs of corrosion, or maybe I don’t know what it looks like. Ha. My question, where should I go now? Would replacing the battery be worth a try? Thanks… Brad
Brad Meyers, to replace the battery it is not just “worth it” but an absolutely requirement. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone or continue to charge it. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides. Once it is disassembled, you do need to clean it properly. You will need high grade isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Use this guide to see how to clean it. Even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Do not forget to remove the EMI shields for proper cleaning. While you are cleaning it, check for any broken, missing or burned looking components. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Hope this helps, good luck.
Plug into computer and see if iTunes is reconising it just incase display is damaged
