Customer claims that pre-iOS 12 the device still wouldn’t record audio, and updated in hopes of fixing it. Still no dice, any ideas? The phone records video just fine, but there is a complete lack of audio. (I tried using third party apps, the external mic on headphones, the whole sha-bang.) As for voice memos, the record option is quite simply grayed out and unavailable. Is it a chip issue on the board, or?
This is a well known signature problem for the iPhone 7 and 7 plus. It is a board level fault—flexion based damage at the C12 pad for the master clock signal of the audio ic chip. It happens from normal use of the phone and is due to poor design and construction of the logic board, combined with Apple ignoring this class of defects which first occurred en masse with the iPhone 6 plus.
I got tired of typing out the same post again and again so I wrote a blog article about it recently. You can read it here: http://www.ipadrehab.com/article.cfm?Art…
I have this issue and the only fix for this is to use a Bluetooth headset - This will enable you to use both mic and the speaker and all functions that requires a mic - cheers
