Chosen Solution
We took apart a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ780 to fix a broken fan and ended up with no back-light. The usual suspects on the logic board seem to be OK, but can’t be sure without the schematics to properly troubleshoot the back-light circuit. Would greatly appreciate if someone has any hints on where to get my hands on the schematics or can share them. TIA! EDIT April 4: Board identifiers: 1-874-192012 and MBX-170
