Hi! The display on my Macbook Pro 13” 2015-model have been flickering the last couple of weeks, but after starting it up after an updating last night the flickering worsened before the screen went completely black. But the “starting”-sound works, and so does the keyboard and touchpad, but the backlight on the keyboard have been working some on-and-off. We do not have Apple Store in my country, Norway, but I went to some authorised Apple distributor/repair here. No one listened more than the display being black, and concluded that the display was broken and the hole thing had to be changed, which would cost $840. Not happy about the help I received, I researched myself and found out that the problem is the backlight, so the problem will be connected to the logic board. No one will not give me a price estimate on changing the logic board/components on the logic board, and I fear it would be pricey. So I have a couple of questions.

  1. Have any of you changed/fixed the logic board on your macbook, and what was the price? - My parents are traveling to the US, so fixing it there is an option.
  2. Would you choose to change/fix the logic board or just buy a new macbook pro if it was you? The Macbook had the most upgraded specs at the time and did cost $2700. But the battery, only had 400-500 charge cycles, already have to be changed. A new Macbook Pro with wanted specs would be $3150 here in Norway, but buying it cheaper, at “only” $2499, in the US is an option. - Only different is that we have 5 years warranty in Norway, but most of the time they will say it falls outside of the warranty. I am hesitant to buy the new Macbook Pro with the problems it have had with Flexgate and the keyboards.

First we should make sure what your problem is before answering other questions. Flickering or on/off with keyboard backlight has nothing to do with screen backlight. Plug your Mac into a TV or external screen with an adapter and confirm the video is there. Also check with a bright light if you can see a faint image when you shine the light to the screen or from the back of the screen through the apple logo. If you have an image the backlight can be fixed with a component level repair that will cost you a fraction the cost of a used Mac as yours. No need to go to the USA to fix it, in Europe we are maybe less but, with due exceptions, as good as they are ;)

We are a Technician Group, and in personal is better and Cheaper fix you Computer, it’s hard for a technician to know what is happening inside without looking it, can be a Liquid Damage Device, Loose Connection or simple Fuse, AVG motherboard repair cost $200.00 up to $500.00 that is more cheaper to get a new Computer. There is a lot of places in USA if they are coming for sure somebody here can fix it. (Sorry for the Span Mr. robot).
