I have a Macbook Pro A1297 17" i5 After water damage a few years ago I got the laptop running perfectly but only on mains power direct. The battery will NOT charge, NO battery will charge in it (I have three). I gather now it must be circuitry? OR could it just be the MagSafe board? I still charge the battery via another knackered system as I need a battery since it keeps the times and settings. So the voltage etc is being recognized by the logic board from the battery but the laptop will NOT run from a full battery or charge at all. Is there a part of the circuitry I can home in on?? I would love to have the charge and run from battery to work again! Any help appreciated. Kind regards, Simon.
That’s a tough situation to be in. In my experience its unlikely the magsafe board. Most of the time its ends up being an issue with the board. This may be as simple has cleaning corrosion on the board that is bridging and shorting some circuitry or it may be more involved where you would have to find the plans for the board, troubleshoot connections by checking continuity in search of failed components. Not to mention that the job becomes a bigger hassle without the proper tools.
