I have an iPad Pro 10.5” model number A1701. I am trying to diagnose and fix a power issue. I’ve tried two batteries and three charge ports and the current on my USB detector reads 0.01 amps at 5.13 volts no matter what. I’ve tested multiple capacitors, but I lack the guides to tell me which capacitors are associated with which circuits. I don’t see anything burnt up or anything, but I need to get power to this somehow. Any suggestions or leads?
A bit of background info on what happened to the iPad leading up to this issue would be helpful. Was it repaired, dropped or came into contact with water…or did it “die” out of the blue. Sometimes using “cheapo” chargers can cause similar symptoms as well. As for the problem, assuming it happened out of the blue, the normal troubleshooting is battery, charge port, charge circuit (on the logic board). If it is logic board related, then it would be a Tristar or PMIC issue and neither of those is a DIY repair by any stretch. If the iPad was dropped, repaired or got wet, then it could be anything. Your best bet is to have it looked at by a shop that does micro-soldering repairs. The 10.5 is difficult to repair as there isn’t much technical info available.
Hi, I got the same problem. iPad suddenly stopped working. Won’t turn on any more, not charging and won’t connect to a mac. I’ve tried the DFU reset, but had no response. (DFU reset: while plugged in a mac with iTunes; Hold the home+power button for 10 sec and then let the power button go but keeping the home button pressed for an other 5 sec) Also took it to apple genius bar but they could not see the iPad nor could they find the problem. I would like to know if any one has the same problem with this iPad Pro model. And how common this issue is. iPad Pro Model A1701 Thanks,
A week ago my iPad stopped charging. (2017 Pro model.) After going through the obvious variables with no success I scheduled a genius bar appointment. They did their diagnostics, told me the port was fine, and that there was some sort of internal short. I believe he said the charge circuit. Unfixable. It’s a brick and I have no options other than to buy a new one. So, here I am on iFixit looking for info. I’m sure I don’t have the ability for that type of repair. Are there places willing to tackle that sort of repair?
Thanks Thomas. I think it’s really strange that it just stops working from one day to the other? And I’m wondering how many other iPads out there just stopped working without any reason?! I also got a new iPad but I feel I could have use the iPad 10.5 pro for a much longer time or give it to any of the kids… Would love to hear from others.. Thanks
Got the same problem here. client brought in an ipad that didnt turn on. she said that the ipad was dropped and didnt want to turn on anymore. i grabbed myself a replacement screen but ipad still didnt turn on. i tried booting the ipad into DFU mode which was a success. pc recognized the ipad. when i kicked the ipad out of DFU black screen again. but this time the ipad wont even go into DFU mode
