I’ve repaired a few iPhones. Now I have a 6 that had some water damage. Did all the normal stuff I do which usually works. Suck , heat, and blow dry. Then clean screen PCB contacts. Then install new complete screen asst, battery, and camera. Usually works. Didn’t in this case. So I checked the new battery seems like no voltage. So my real question is can I charge the battery if the screen assy is not installed? Thanks
I think you need to upgrade your water damage procedure. Sucking and blowing just doesn’t cut it, not to mention the infinite amount of “double entendre” this can generate :>). You should , at the very least be soaking the logic board in >90% IPA and brushing away the visible corrosion. However, the nasty stuff is usually occurring under the shields so you should remove those to do a proper job. When that isn’t sufficient, then you start troubleshooting. Connecting a water damaged battery back to the logic board can potentially corrupt the data on the NAND so good on you for not doing that. As a matter of fact, you shouldn’t be connecting power at all until you have at least confirmed that there are no shorts on PP_BATT_VCC or PP_VCC_MAIN. As for your main question, the battery will charge (assuming the charge circuit works) with only a lightning port and the logic board.
