Chosen Solution
I bought a cheap car adapter. I know, I know, lesson learned. NEVER will happen again! I promise! When I plugged the phone in to it, the phone restarted itself (apple logo and all). That’s all that I noticed at that time. Later that night when I plugged in to my house charger I didn’t hear the little ‘ping’ noise that usually occurs when plugged in and there was no lightning bolt on upper screen to show that it is charging. After searching the internet, restarting and resetting the phone I still had no solution. I thought I would see if it worked if I plugged it back in to the car charger. Nope! This time however, I swear I saw a small amout of smoke come from the lightning port connector. So I thought that perhaps I burnt up the lightning connector. I ordered a new part and a new battery just in case and replaced the parts. I am no where close to being a tech person, but I must say the step by step instructions were very easy to follow. I could not have made it without the magnetic pad to place all the parts on. It was super scary seeing all the parts laid out on the pad. However, everything went great (even replaced the adhesive strips). No luck though. Phone still does not recognize being plugged in to charger. If turned off it charges better, but never completely. Since this has happened it has been up to 87%. Everything else works great on the phone. I can read a book. I can watch videos, receive text and respond, make phone calls, etc. Just can’t keep a charge on the phone. Any suggestions and /or help? Replaced battery and lightning connector already. Thanks
Next step would be diagnosing what’s the problem with the logic board where there are a couple of chips sharing task of charging the battery, but that’s well beyond the level of difficulty associated with a DIY job. Thus, either you keep it as it is or you’ll have to find a pro into microsoldering repairs, you’ve already done all that’s reasonable to try without indepth skills and specific tools.
