I’ve had some serious problems with my old 3GS. An external battery pack fried my powermanagent chip, causing my battery performing extremly bad. 12 hours wall-charging for a full charge. Extremly low battery capacity. Anyway, it works (worked), it does it’s thing, calling, texting bla bla. That’s history now, i got a new iPhone 4 so I turned my semi-brooken iPhone 3gs off. Two weeks later I gave my friend the 3GS. But it didn’t start, it was totally dead. Charged it for a couple of days without result. When I put it in DFU-mode iTunes detects it and is asking for a recovery. After a couple of minutes “Preparing iPhone for restoring” I got error 1601, unknown error. (Screen is black during hole procedure) Google tells me error 1601 is solved by: Uninstalling/install itunes Restart computer Try different USB-cable Try different USB connector Try another computer with iTunes But, noting works… Any ideas anyone?
as far as I know there is no simple fix for this…apart from a new mother board. apple support only has the same advice you’ve already taken. I’ve had same error, and tried all sorts of downgrades/restores/jailbreaks to no avail. there is one idea on a site which says to restore phone to earliest known iOS for your phone, which worked for them for a similar error. worth a try
Look at my answer here. If this doesn’t help then your issue is hardware related. No fix besides a new board if u fried the chip.
You need a custom firmware
