I started up my 3ds, but the screen was just blank and no blue light so I removed the back to reinput the battery. When I screwed off the back I saw a puddle of water! I dryed it and blow dried it. When I tried turning It on the blue light showed and my splash screen showed too. I thought it was fixed but the screen turned blank after the splash screen :/ any ideas? I have luma3ds CFW and lots of save data I would hate to lose …..
After you’ve dried your 3ds try getting to cfw menu… you need to be a contortionist or have another hand, Press and hold L & R shoulder buttons, up, a and then press power. You should be able to go through the cfw menu and find the settings to reboot. Took me few goes but eventually I found it and the 3ds woke up. You may need to have SD card with cfw loaded in 3ds.
Hi @senorpenguins , As you know water and electronics and electricity are not a good mix. The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the console’s operating design and could damage the components. First do not turn on your console and then with it turned off you need to remove the battery as soon as possible to minimize any further damage.’’ Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the device and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ (available from electronic parts stores and some pharmacies) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use “rubbing alcohol” as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain scents and other ingredients and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount of IPA. Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Hopefully after you have done all this the console might possibly work correctly again. Here is a link to the ifixit guide(s) for repairing your console. 3DS XL Repair If this process seems too daunting, take your console to a reputable, professional electronics repair service experienced in water damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair.
