Hi all……My grandson broke my son’s PS4 optical drive by jamming a card into it……The boys say when they install a disc, it just spins and won’t read the disk…I’m thinking the optical drive is bad… I was going to go online and get a new one and replace it…. If anyone has tips or tricks to try before replacing the drive, I would love to know My question is….Is there different drives with different firmware where I need the specific model # or will any PS4 optical drive work in this… Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated……..Thx for time

Replace it with the same model, but that may not be necessary. Just taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning. As the optical drive board is paired to the motherboard, you can’t replace one without the other. You can replace the mechanical and other components of the optical drive. You can read more on the product description for the replacement: PlayStation 4 Optical Drive Hope this helps!

If your drive still doesn’t work after replacing check your motherboard the FUSE could be dead. Search google & replace the F6202 fuse (check the others near it as they could be a problem also). This fixed it for us. No new drive or motherboard needed.
