I have an HP Stream that had a broken screen but when I swapped the screen out for a working one, the backlight doesn’t work. I don’t think these laptops have a replaceable inverter so how do I get the backlight to work? I have tried the new screen on a two separate HP Stream that had lit but broken screens and the same thing happened to both so I don’t think its the motherboard. I have also tried resetting the HP to factory settings to no avail. Anyone have any other ideas to try? Has anyone else had this same problem?

Hi, If you hadn’t said that you had tried the ’new’ screen in a different laptop I would have suggested that you check the connections of the ’lid switch’ in your laptop. This switch turns off the power for the backlighting when the lid is closed. Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop. Scroll to p.4 to see the lid switch location. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04… Does the original screen still work in the other laptop? (Backlight only of course). You might have a ‘double header’, i.e. 2 faults.

  1. New screen backlight circuit faulty, therefore doesn’t work anywhere.
  2. New fault of backlight circuit not working in original laptop. (see above re lid switch) This scenario would be one answer to the problems you are having.

there is a fuse on the mother board the goes out easily. there is a video on youtube that shows how to fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v
