Im looking to replace my 2014 logic board with a 2017 one. Im already running High Sierra on my current board/ssd but will the replacement 2017 board running the older Sierra require me to first load an older OS (Sierra) from time machine onto my ssd before swapping boards to ensure compatibility with my existing ssd?
I found my answer in another thread! Basically once your system has been updated to High Sierra, the firmware on the logic board is updated to read the newer APFS file system that High Sierra converts the ssd to. If your replacement logic board has not already been updated to the new APFS system (High Sierra), then the answer provided in this link outlines the process to remedying this situation. I have done the exact same thing to my older 2012 MBA and it worked just fine. You should be okay to use High Sierra on the other Logic Board. If not I would be surprised…
