My Epson XP-850 had a paper jam. I cleared out all jammed paper, including going in from the back, but now, when I try to print, I get a grinding sound and the new paper jams immediately. I tried everything: flattening the paper, lining it up with care, even trying just a single sheet, with the same result: grind, grind, jam. I fear I damaged something when clearing the original paper jam. HELP!!!!!!
@ecooney try to check those things systematically. Start with what Epson suggest: Poor Paper Loading [Presumable Cause] • Use of 3rd party media • Edge guide mis-setting • Foreign material • Part come-off • Contamination of paper feed roller on Pickup Roller or Duplex Unit • Paper Casette Assy damage • Contamination of PF Roller [Major Troubleshooting] • Recommendation of EPSON media • Edge guide re-setting • Foreign material removal • Part re-installation • Pickup Roller replacement • Duplex Unit replacement • Paper Casette Assy replacement • Printer Mechanism replacement Paper Jam Error (Occurrence Condition] This error occurs when top/bottom of paper is not detected by ASF PE Sensor or PE Sensor in the specified steps of paper loading / ejecting operation correctly. [Major Occurrence Timing] • Power-on timing • Paper loading timing • Paper eject timing [Major Troubleshooting] 1 Push “Start” button after the jammed paper in printer mechanism is removed. 2 If this error occurs again, check foreign materials / parts come-off / parts damage / parts deformation in paper path. 3 If this is not solved by 2), check the following parts. • ASF PE sensor (Paper Guide Rear ASF Assy) • PE sensor • Main board
May not be the same issue, but I had a similar problem with paper jamming endlessly for no apparent reason. Turned out it was the simple thing of not having the paper guide pushed forward enough in the paper tray….
This happens to me. What has been working for me is to switch it to heavy paper on the control panel under settings on the printer. Run a few pieces (it will probably still make the horrible grinding sounds) then switch it back to regular. When it’s switched back to regular for whatever reason this ‘trick’ stops the grinding and jams for awhile.
Strongly suggest you get some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Remove paper tray. Dip swab in alcohol , and clean the paper pickup roller. Don’t touch pickup roller(s) with your bare fingers. Oils can get on roller. Don’t ever turn printer upside down! Use good/fresh/flat paper. Leaving paper in the tray for extended period of time can cause paper to curl on the ends.
Paper jam seems to be helped by using a smaller stack of blank printing paper int the tray. With a larger stack have tried setting at different spots on tray and that has not stopped jams.
Lots of places are selling super cheap and super THIN 8-1/2x11 printing paper! Make sure your using QUALITY paper. If you print a page of text flip it over and see if you can see it from the back side, if so it’s cheap thin paper that will NEVER print properly. Also, get a cotton swap dipped in rubbing alcohol and clean the pickup rollers. They will develope a slick coating over time that will not grip the paper.
In most of the cases, Epson printer says paper jam while there is no paper because of the few reasons. Some objects are available in the machine.Roller is unable to rotate properly. So you need to clean the roller and then retry to access the printer. It should be working fine now. in case, if the error still continues, you need to factory reset the printer.
