Can anyone tell me which part I need that has socket that the phone battery plugs into? I can’t tell if it is the iPhone Dock connector or the iPhone headphone jack and volume control. Or, could it be some other part?? Thank you in advance to the iPhone Gods! Jake

Let me guess the battery connector got ripped off the board. There are people that can repair the battery connector. Better to do that first than changing another logic board because a second hand iPhone 4 is like cheap.

@jakester since you just want to practice, you are giving up to early. Get a new connector from places like ebay amazon etc. and run jumpers according to the attached image. Most of your future work will come from people like yourself, who have tore stuff off. It will not always be as easy as just replacing parts :-)
