Chosen Solution
I bought an phone off of eBay and the seller said it was unlocked but when I plugged it in it has a passcode. I always see YouTubers like Hugh Jeffreys get stuff like this but they somehow unlock it. How do I get past the passcode?
@austinbouska for the passcode reset follow what Apple suggest on here Remember that the password for the Apple ID, of course, rather than the passcode for the device are two separate things. You cannot reset that! For that there are only two solutions. You either need the Apple ID and password, or you might be able to get Apple Support to do it for you if you can provide solid proof of ownership and where the phone comes from etc. (doubtful). The only recourse you have is to get your money back through ebay.com. Buyer beware!!!!!
You will need to put the phone in DFU mode then restore it. After restoring and during setup if it asks you to enter apple ID and passcode it is iCloud locked. If it is iCloud locked open a dispute with the seller on eBay I am sure you will get a refund if it stated it was unlocked.
