Everything is fine when the phone is on my ear. But when I turn on speakerphone, person I’m talking to can’t hear me. Help!

The iPhone 4S has 2 microphones. One comes as part of the dock connector and is the main microphone. The secondary microphone acts as a ’noise cancelling’ mic when the phones held to your ear and acts as the main microphone when your phone is on speakerphone and when recording videos. It sounds like you need to replace the secondary microphone. This comes as part of the headphone jack flex on the iPhone 4S. PART GUIDE The iPhone 4S is still under its 12 month warranty. I would highly recommend using Apple to honour this warrant before carrying out the repair yourself.

Just fixed my iphone 4 . clean out the tiny hole on top next to the headphone jack. q tip or tooth brush with alcohol if you need to. get bristles of brush down in the hole. I went from not being able to use speaker phone at all to crystal clear like the first day I owned the phone.

I have the same exact problem! I just recorded my son’s first choir performance & can only hear the faint clapping at the end. When they replace mic can I hear the whole thing or is it ruined?!!

This was extremely helpful!! I cleaned out the tiny pinhole with bristles from a toothbrush & it worked!! My speaker phone is back to 100%.. Thank you!!!
