Does anyone knows if it is possible to do the LCD assembly replacement without disassemble the screen from the body? I saw a video tutorial in youtube with a similar model. However, the guy was a professional tecnician, so i dont know if i could do that. Mi model is a Macbook Pro15’’ Unibody A1286 Early 2011 and this is the video for model A1278: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-pB6-kU… I would like to know if i could follow this tutorial or I should to choose another one better.. Thank You¡ Update (03/06/2018) Is this fine or maybe thicker would be better?
Louis does make it look easy ;-} This is an older model which doesn’t have the gasket around the edge of the glass the newer models have (this one even has a removable battery!) I would recommend you review this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 Display Replacement on taking the display assembly fully off. As its a lot easier to remove the cover glass and replace the LCD. Or, if you just want to get it done quickly, replace the complete lid assembly. To take the cover glass off you do need to watch how to apply your heat gun as you can quickly damage the rubber. I use a small metal ruler to act as a shield protecting it from heat guns heat as I heat the edge. Here’s a good guide to follow on the steps to pop the cover glass: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody 2.53 GHz Mid 2009 LCD Replacement. Pick things up from Step19. Take your time as it doesn’t take much to break the glass.
