Hi, My IPhone 6 encountered some water due to a leaking water bottle in my bag. Initially the phone continued to work fine. Then vertical lines started to appear on the screen and finally the screen went completely dead. And I could not boot up the phone anymore. I opened up the phone and was some corrosion near the home button connector and the front camera connector. Other than that, most of the chip looked pretty clean. I went ahead and did the brushing and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. But the phone still would not start up. How can I test the board to see where the problem might be before I spend money buying a new battery and LCD/digitizer? Thank you.
Hi Kareen. Unfortunately, 80% of the electronics is hidden underneath the shields. That is where your problem probably resides. If you don’t want to spend money buying parts to troubleshoot, then I recommend you find a shop that can do water damage and micro-soldering repairs. They will properly diagnose your problem. If you do want to try things, start with… Is your phone recognized by iTunes if you plug it into your computer with a lightning cable?Have you tried a hard reset (home+power until the Apple logo)?Have you tried DFU Mode?Inspect visually the area around the screen connectors. Use a magnifying glass or preferably a jeweler’s loupe. Look for missing components or loose solder joints on the connectors (on the logic board and the screen flex cables). Do you have access to another iPhone 6? If so you could try to isolate some variables. Like put in a known good battery or try your battery in another phone.Order a battery and or a charge port and try replacing those. Please follow iFixit guides very carefully and keep track of your screws and where they go.You could try a screen but f iTunes doesn’t recognize your phone, it’s not worth it. There are lots of things to try but once you get to soldering issues, it really isn’t a DIY fix anymore.
