Chosen Solution
The phone is showing a battery with little or no life. It is pluged in for charging displaying a battery with the lightning bolt. However, attempting to shut off or reboot is not working.

hmmm, might point at dead battery. is sync cable all working? maybe the charger is broken as well… try different ones…
