My 3 year old son thought it would be funny to throw my phone into the toilet. Luckily I was right there and was able to immediately take it out. It had a cover on it. I turned it off and shook the water out. But I do not have the tools to disassemble it. Is it possible that it didn’t get fried? There wasn’t much water inside the cover and not much water came out when I shook it.

That’s the key question isn’t it. The other day my brother-in-law called saying he had just dropped his phone in the pool. He was asking me what to do. I told him ideally it had to be shut down and brought to a professional repair shop that does water damage treatments as quickly as possible. Instead, he felt confident that there wan’t much water…and besides, the phone seemed to be working fine! Well, within a few minutes while we chatted, the phone started going haywire, he heard some sizzling noise and then smoke. Yes, some phones survive the ordeal. Sometimes they even survive the rice treatment. But the honest answer is that you should have it professionally looked at if you value the phone or data.
