after doing a hard reset the touch screen is still unresponsive. also when it was dropped initially about 10 hours ago the left side of the screen had a tiny crack. any ideas on what could be broken? Screen or motherboard? any help?
Jack Nicolsen you cannot make the determination without working on it. The number one give away on here is this “dropped initially about 10 hours ago” and " the left side of the screen had a tiny crack" You have a failed digitizer. Replacing that will resolve your issue. This video should help you with that. Don’t start soldering on the board until you have properly checked everything else.
I just cleaned the digitizer port contacts with contact cleaner and it worked.
