My wife and daughter took their iPhone 6S Plus over to Japan for vacation and purchased a Japanese SIM card. When they returned home, their phones were stuck in 3G. I have done a complete factory reset 3 times as per the Verizon rep which did not make a difference. Apple was brought into the trouble shooting and was on a 3 way call with Verizon. Apple ran several tests which proved the phone to be working and that it was a carrier issue. Verizon has passed me along to all their tier support levels and I am not waiting for an Engineer to call me and work this out. I have been waiting nearly 5 days. Has anyone ever experienced this? I have located several things on the web but it’s all the things I have already tried and nothing works. Verizon even sent me 2 new SIM cards to try and that did not work either.

I have known in some instances of once a SIM card is inserted into a phone, it literally locks that phone to that service. Have you contacted that sim carrier by chance and see if they have a 3g lock on the phone now?

Here is how I fixed it easily. we have Verizon. We went to Europe and got new SIM cards for Vodaphone. As soon as I put in the new SIM a message came from vodaphone that had me download a new profile to my phone for me to be able to use that SIM card. You need to remove that profile and magically it works. To remove the profile at least on iPhone go to settings then general then go down and right after VPN look for Profile. Click on it and remove this profile. Now you need to reset the network settings so in the same area go down to reset and click reset network settings and you will be back to business. hope this works.

My husband works in a poor area for reception and it’s often in 3G, but when he gets home it’s still stuck. We just did a hard reset and it took care of it.

So my dad paid my phone for minutes because I saw the Verizon people text me and it’s said that ur service has been added and it ends the end of September, and usually when I see the message I do power off bc it would still say 3g and when I turned my phone back on it still said said 3g from what it said before it got paid so I did that a couple of times but I still don’t know what the problem was, and I’ve been looking it up and nothing is working I was hoping I could find the right answer so I was hoping someone could help me

My daughter had same issue after she came back from London. She had used local SIM there. The solution above solved her problem
