certain channels , picture breaking up, sometimes quite badly, other -wise, normal ?
Thanks jayeff for the reply, apologies for delay.. All your remarks duly noted and of course appreciated, it did cross my mind that because of the difference in reception , that certain channels were not as strong as others. By the way the antenna is pointing to Sutton Coldfield here in the midlands (UK) , no set top box, straight application.. Since the past post,! I decided to re-tune the Samsung TV , to attempt a sort of re-set, strangely enough, the main culprit channel, (19) among others, seems quite normal again, ! ‘fingers crossed’ . However, poor connections , will still be on my suspect list, and I will get the antenna system checked, some time soon. Thank you again, for your interest , and sound advice.. Hi, How do you get the TV channel signals, direct via a TV antenna or an input connection via a “box” to an antenna or cable? If via an antenna have you checked that the existing antenna is in good condition and is pointed in the correct direction with regard to where the TV transmitters are? Check the signal level for your channels. You may need a new antenna or antenna lead and possibly a masthead amplifier as well if the signal level is too low or on the threshold for some channels but not for others. If connected via a “box” what make and model number is it? Check its’ User guide to see if it has a signal level menu option as well.
Hi @lestersmith1257, Is this a new TV for you and if so did the problem occur with the old TV? What is the make and model number of the TV? How do you receive the signals for the TV channels, direct via an antenna or via a “box” e.g. PVR, of some description? If via a “box’, what is the make and model number of the ‘box” Have you checked the signal levels of the channels using the TV (or “box’s”) inbuilt signal level meter - most have this provision somewhere in the menu options? If all the signals are low, check the location of the TV transmitter in your area and make sure that the aerial is pointed directly towards the broadcast transmitter. Also check for any nearby obstructions such as tall trees or any new high building that are in a direct line between the TV transmitter and you antenna that may be interfering with the signal. Is your antenna high enough? If it is and you have checked that the antenna is in good condition and that all the connections between the antenna and the TV (or the “box’) are OK and you still get low level signals (remember the higher the -ve dB value the lower the signal level if the level is represented in dB, most just show 0-100 so the higher the better) you may need to get a masthead amplifier to boost the signal. Are the channels breaking up all the time or only perhaps when an appliance has started up, e.g. a refrigerator or an air conditioner or even a faulty CFL light which may be emitting strong EMR which is being picked up by the antenna and which interferes with the TV signal?
This is more than likely due to your aerial, than any other factor. If it is a digital TV, then one of the down sides is that the picture and sound signals a sent separately instead of together like the old analogue units. So you either need a good indoor digital aerial or a quality outdoor aerial.
Hi Vin, Possible simple solution: Had this problem and corrected it by upgrading indoor 75Ω coaxial cable from standard RG59 to RG6 . RG6 just has better shielding than RG59 Check what cable you currently have. Should be very faintly printed on the outer Maybe you could do this all the way from the antenna .
Hello, sm_vulus, and to you also jayeff, .Trust it’s OK to answer you both in the one post. You both touched on the one and only thing I had in mind, the ‘antenna’, . But I was a bit puzzled why only the odd channel, and not all channels ?.Since you both pointed to this , then without doubt , at the moment, I will indeed get the antenna connections checked !
