Hi, recently my directv satellite took a direct lighting strike which sent a surge through the co ax through the surge protector and to the tv. It blew the hdmi ports black on the tv and I had to install a new mother board on the tv it blew the directv box, the century link box, the printer and you guessed my ps4 as well. The surge protector was a gaming type which I payed a decent dollar for but it blew that black as well, I called them and they said no surge protector can ever withstand a direct lighting strike basically saying im S*** out of luck. I was able to fix the tv for 100 bucks by ordering a new mother board, directv and century link sent me new boxes for free and i had to get a new printer but the ps4 is another story. It will not turn on at all no blinking no sounds so I’m not sure where to go from here. Im pretty good with electronics as i repaired my television cell phone and other knick knacks but dont have any experience with a ps4. But before I break into this thing is it worth trying to fix myself or paying the $150 to sony to get a refurbished one since mine is out of warranty. I see I can order a new motherboard and power supply cheaper online so my question is what parts do you believe I need or do you think it’s fried. Thanks

It most likely just needs a new power supply. Unfortunately with lightning strikes there can be multiple problems so there’s no way to know for sure if it’s only one thing. The place to start though is the power supply. A lot of times a lightening strike will take out the HDMI IC chip as well but there’s no way to know until you can at least turn it on. Hope this helps.

I had a lightning strike and now my PS4 HDMI port is not sending signal I tried different monitors and cables the PS4 boots up and seems to be fine. You mentioned HDMI IC chip how do I know if that’s the problem?
