I have a Polaroid Series 1 49” full HD TV. Here is the problem: When I plug the TV in, the screen flashes for a split second with the Polaroid logo then goes black. When I make the room pitch black, I can see very faintly what is on the screen. After much research, it seems as though the backlights are not working. I tried replacing the ‘power supply’ board and this did not work. This TV is only 1 year old but my warranty has expired. Today, I dismantled the TV to check the blacklights. I videoed the backlights to see which ones turn on for a split second second when the power is plugged in. Please see photo attached. HALF of the blacklights turn on.
Do you think the 4 strips of backlights are faulty and need replacing or do you think this is another issue? I find it strange that exactly half of them are not working… Many thanks, Georgie.
Hi @ghgh22 , Replacing the power supply board is not going to solve the issue if the LED strips are shorted. Unfortunately these TVs are designed in a way that a single shorted LED is enough to prevent the TV from turning on. If you have a multimeter, try to illuminate the individual LEDs by selecting the diode mode on your multimeter and you can see which ones are at fault. If it is more than one LED which is quite likely, I’d suggest that you replace those individual strips that has faulty LEDs on. You won’t need to replace all 8 strips. You mentioned that 4 wires ager going in means that you have 2 x 4 strips controlled form the PSU board. Make sure when you order the replacement you order it according to your chassis number as they are chassis dependant and not model dependant. When you install the new LEDs you can check if they are in working order by disconnecting the main board from the PSU which should light up the LED strips. Good luck!
