Poped two 16 v caps on my 7950gt agp card, changed them and when I put it back in the PC started it up and the monitor cam on and it looked like it was going to be fine , but once the windows screen came up I got a bunch of vertical lines ,could it be a drive issue, or is it just plain screwd,thanks for your help,,,also I have a 8400gt PCI video card and was wondering if it will work on the Same PC ,,,,of course using it on the PCI slot.
Hi, There has to be a reason why the capacitors failed. If they ’exploded’ it means that they were subjected to voltages higher than their rating which means that obviously something else has also failed. If they were just ‘domed’, did you verify that the replacements had the same specifications and that you connected them with the polarity in the right way. (assuming that they were electrolytic capacitors that is). There should be no reason that a pci video card should not work in your PC. You may have to check in BIOS whether you have to select/deselect the AGP slot as the primary video, but that might depend on the motherboard manufacturer’s BIOS setup. You might also have a bit of difficulty getting the appropriate drivers for the 8400GT ( is it nvidia?) as a quick check of the drivers page doesn’t mention a 8400GT, only a 8400GS. You may have to go to the card manufacturer’s website to get the drivers rather than the nVidia site..
