I use my MacBook as a desktop computer, always with the power cord plugged in. A month ago my quite old magsafe did that little pop and light went blank, happened years before so I knew I had to replace it. I bought a new one. One month in all is fine, until yesterday. I accidentally dropped my Z906 speaker which sits on the left edge of my desk near or on the magsafe. It also took out the audio jack with it. Suddenly the screen went black, the MacBook rebooted itself and the green light on the magsafe turned blank. I had no power and was on battery. What’s strange is after I logged in, the time & date were set incorrectly, year was 2038, no internet, and I had to log back in on web pages with a saved user/pass. Did some sort of reset occur here? That was resolved quickly enough. There was still no light on the magsafe and no charging. I wasted the battery trying to resolve the issue to no avail. Now that the battery is below 5% I can’t power it on. My next step would be to get a new charger and see if that resolves it. Hopefully some of you can help with the symptoms I’ve described.
2038 issue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_… There are so many fake mag-safe charger out that are almost perfect looking but don’t act right. What was the source of your charger. If you still have the old one, weigh them both, a fake will be lighter.
