There is extra sensitivity to the top power button. It is activating without any pressure applied. If I press it down forcefully, it will work for awhile, but after a bit, it will go back to not working. I am hoping I can take it apart and fix it, if it is a mechanical issue, but I am not sure that it is. Any advice would be appreciated.
You pretty much have to rule out any mechanical issues anyway as part of your troubleshooting. You can follow this guide for the iPhone 5S, which is fairly similar in design. If a replacement power button doesn’t solve the problem, then there could be an issue at the logic board level but that is unlikely as the circuit is simple and not prone to failure.
