my hdd crashed friday ive orderd a new one but now i want to install windows but when i connect my hdd i cant enter the bios and when i disconnect it i can so ive changed the boot priority to cd/rom drive but still doesnt boot from disk
Hi, You may have to start from scratch and start proving that the problem is either in the ’new’ HDD or the motherboard. Can you boot to the Win install cd-rom when it is in the CD drive, with the HDD not connected to the motherboard? If not go into BIOS and see if the cd-rom is listed in the ‘drives’ list. If not, shut down the PC and swap the CD-ROM sata connection over to another sata port on the motherboard. (not the one where you has the HDD connected to before) Start PC and go into BIOS and see if the CD-ROM drive is now detected. If not the BIOS may be corrupted. Try using the BIOS options to reset the BIOS to default settings and start again. If it is , perhaps the first SATA controller (it controls the port) may be faulty. Try to boot using the Win install disc.] If you can boot into Windows, shutdown the PC and connect the HDD to the SATA port next to the cd-rom drive port. Start PC and see if you can get into BIOS. If not your ’new’ HDD may either be faulty or has perhaps the wrong ‘removable link settings’ (if there are any available) in place If you can get into BIOS check that both the cd-rom and the HDD are listed. Try again to boot from cdrom drive
