Just repaired my PS3 with the ifixit repair kit for the YLOD. It worked, but when my son turned it on the fan got faster and louder and louder, when it over heated in just a few minutes. What did I do wrong with the reapair? It was never this loud before.
You should go ahead and clean the heatsinks out, they may have dust in them, however, you may need to reapply thermal paste, but you can get artic silver 5 for 10.00 with tax, but your state’s ales tax may be different and cost more or less PlayStation 3 Heat Sink Replacement
Definitely sounds like the thermal paste you used is not the right kind. Your fan is trying to cool down the system and shuts it off because it is overheating. Do the ylod fix again but clean the old thermal paste off completely, i use 70% rubbing alcohol on a piece of tissue. then apply artic silver 5 like " nicksmacandpchelp " said above.
Arctic 5 thermal paste at radio shack!
I have arctic silver 5, but tuniq is cheaper and said to be much better, diamond is more expensive but it is even better. Less is more with thermal paste.
