Hi everyone, I have CUH-1000 series PS4, and its Blu-ray drive is not functioning properly. It loads and plays the games in the end, but you have to eject and reinsert the disc to launch the game if you let it stop when it’s already in. Also it doesn’t read the discs as it should, when inserted it spins and stops few times, like it won’t read the disc, but then picks up and reads it. What’s more interesting, when you suspend and wake the system after the disc stops inside, it doesn’t need to be reinserted again. I thought it might be a software issue and waited for a fix with a System update, but it’s still the same. I opened the disc drive before and couldn’t see anything wrong, but i’m not an expert about it. Besides i didn’t have any errors during any updates, as far as i know if the BD is broken, you can’t update. I want to replace the BD, but as i heard it’s not that easy as just swapping the drives, sister/daughter board on BD needs to be replaced too, but i don’t know if the issue i describe is a problem in BD itself or a problem on the daughter board. If it’s a daughter board issue, can i use a daughter board from the CUH-1000 series? (If i’m lucky maybe?) Looking for your advices. Update (12/21/2019) I opened the Blu-ray drive again, cleaned it but the issue persists. Logic board is BDP-020. Lens is KEM-490 AAA. There are “Deck Mechanism with Laser Lens” on sale, which contains both the motor that spins the disc and the lens. I guess if i replace that part, instead of replacing the whole drive, the problem will be fixed. I can’t think of any other culprit, am i wrong?
I fixed it without replacing anything. Cleaned the internals (lens, rollers, etc.) and lubricated the metal rails/sliders. Works good.
